Our Truffles

It is claimed that Italy has the best white and black truffles in the world, and for Italians, hunting and gathering the fruits of the earth is in the blood. Records show that truffles were being hunted in Italy as far back as the 14 th century, and the image of the truffle hunter setting-off at night with his faithful dog to look for truffles is one of the country's most enduring rural images.

The Urbani family are one of the world's most long established purveyors of fresh truffles, and are considered the true pioneers of truffle culture in Italy . Towards the end of the 19 th century, Carlo Urbani saw the commercial possibilities of both fresh and preserved truffles, and with the help of his wife Olga, set about establishing a rapport with local truffle hunters.

Agreements were then set in place to buy up the truffles of the local hunters, and through time this was extended to truffle hunters throughout Italy. Today Urbani call on the largest network of truffle hunters in Europe.

The company is now in the hands of Carlo's grandsons – Paolo and Bruno Urbani – who share in their grandfather's passion to see truffles appreciated throughout the world.
